Creating a One Planet Region

 Dr Trevor Hancock

Climate change is without doubt a major global ecological change with profound implications for the health of humans and many other species. It is however just one of many rapid and large-scale global ecological changes that together constitute ‘The Anthropocene’.

Canada's ecological footprint is five times larger than our fair share of the Earth's resources, while Victoria's footprint is at least three times larger than our fair share. The challenge we face is to reduce our ecological footprint to match Earth’s ‘biocapacity’, while maintaining a high quality of life and good health for all. That is what the concept of a One Planet Region is all about, and that is what we will explore.

This will be the opening of a series of speakers OCA will be presenting in 2019 in response to the City of Victoria’s neighbourhood planning process.

Board Meetings

The following was inadvertently dropped from the previous OCA Bylaw section 4.8 when the section was updated to the new Societies Act.. "All directors meetings are open to the voting members of the society."

We propose reinstating this back into the Bylaws in it's own section 4.13.
